Well, finally got out to see Marlay Demesne with an eye towards using it as the location for the wedding reception. While it's nice, I don't think it has any rooms large enough. Still, one down, x number to go. Will let y'all know if we find anything suitable.

Am now exhausted, as is sea_of_tethys . She's just recovering from a virus, which I may have just picked up... :P Of course, she has work to do, while I'm just... messing around on lj.

Ah well.

I would just like to say that anyone with some free time should try to get to 'The search for the real Jimmy Gorman' by Neil Sharpson, showing until the 18th at teh Trinity Players Theatre, 8pm. Funniest thing I've seen in ages :) Tickets  are €15.

Afterwards went to the Porterhouse for  a MANLY drink. Crankcrankcrank.

I is engaged :)

Apr. 19th, 2009 | 06:40 pm

Well, as I'm sure you are all now aware, I am now engaged to be married :) See sea_of_tethys  journal for details. We don't have a date set yet, but it'll probably be sometime next year.

I'm now going to go lie down. Again.

Scarlett Johansson ?actress? clone!!!

Somehow the below got through my gmail spam filter. I can't really hate the spammer too much, as spam goes it's pretty entertaining. Would make a half-decent episode of the X-files.

So, yes, I'll probably be taking a pay cut. Or going on strike and then taking a pay cut. As it happens, I don't think the cut will hurt me too badly, but I'm in a pretty ok place financially. Not having a family to support leaves me with enough disposable income that I can survive ok. I know quite a few people who aren't quite so lucky...

The only thing that annoys me about the whole mess is the way it has been dealt with in the media (by everyone involved, for or against). Heres a tip: if you want to learn anything about the state of the Irish economy or the impact of government policy (past, present and future), don't bother looking in a newspaper. Or watching the news. Or listening to the talking heads on the radio. The amount of absolute garbage being spouted on all sides at the moment is comical and I'm sure is providing ample fodder for Media Studies papers across the globe. Every article, report or opinion piece I've come across lately has been the product of an idiot spouting nonsense or else someone with an agenda trying to get a little airtime.

Sorry, rant over.

In more interesting news, White Wolf are preparing to launch a new Vampire setting - the eighties!!! That's right, big hair, big shoulderpads, leg warmers and more big hair!!! Oh the horror! Guess it'll be added to my giant pile of games-I-want-to-run (which also includes Requiem for Rome, the Vampire game set in Rome just before the fall of the Empire). Here's the cover:

Cut for people who don't give a damn...Collapse )

Housewarming/Birthday Party

Dec. 14th, 2008 | 06:17 pm

So, the party was fun. I had a bit too much wine (thankfully, some of it ended up on the table instead of inside me, which I'm sure reduced the inevitable hangover the next day), but don't recall making too much of an ass of myself, so I count it as a win. Sea of Tethys also seemed pleased with the outcome (and didn't kill me afterwards), so I'm happy with how it turned out. Everyone eventually managed to find the place, which should make future events easier to organise ;)

Thanks everyone for coming (and sorry to those who had work-dos or were otherwise unable to come, especially icklephantom - hope you feel better soon!).

Due to hangover, decided to give Terry Pratchett event a miss on Saturday, but thankfully Jennyanydots21's parents are big fans, so we gave them the tickets (in exchange, they kindly gave us some banana bread, which was delicious). Jennyanydots21 was also responsible for the chocolates that eventually perked me up enough to get me out from under the hangover (dey was delicious, thanks loads luv :D ), which was good, as we had a table booked in FXB's for dinner. Saturday was Tethys and I's 1st year anniversary, so we decided to celebrate with steak. It really doesn't seem like a year, but at the same time it feels like we've known each other for ages. Of course, Tethys has started retroactively putting me into her memories from school (I think she has now photoshopped me into her life from age 16 on), so that might have something to do with it ;)

Today was a quiet day in. I've taken the rest of the week off work (most of which will probably be spent failing to shop for Christmas) and I felt like I needed a chance to fully recover from the past two days :) Of course, instead of relaxing, my brain was suddenly bombarded with ideas for the games I'm running, which has handily kept me distracted all day. On the plus side, this should leave me with plenty of material for next year.

Home Sweet Home

Aug. 31st, 2008 | 11:38 pm
location: Soon-to-be-not-home
mood: nostalgicnostalgic

So, I've been living at the Island for almost a year now. I'll be moving out in a month or two (or three, depending on when we can find a replacement). Its been a great year and I'm definitely going to miss the place, but it's time to move on. Anyway, its not like I'm not going to see the old place again, I'm sure I'll be dropping by to see manic deadpool for games, drinks and more games.

Currently the plan is to move back into my parents' for a month, saving money while searching for a new place. Not really sure what we'll be looking for yet, though a place on the Dart line would be handy. Mostly concerned with having enough room to game/drink/not play Rock Band. Though easy access to all of my friends' abodes would also be nice. While most live handily near each other, one or two live in crazy, out of the way locations like Chapelizod!!!

I know, madness, right?

Well, had a promotion interview on Thursday. Went about as well as I expected, but I don't think I'll be getting it. I haven't been there long enough (and may not actually be allowed to get it at all, due to certain technicalities), but I think its great practice for next time. Now that I know what to expect, I'll be able to do much better next time :)

And now for something completely different:
